Student Spotlight: Lillie Lewis — Leading with Kindness and Purpose
Woodward High School senior Lillie Lewis is making her mark in the Health Careers program at High Plains Technology Center, where her passion for healthcare, leadership, and compassion shines through daily. In addition to excelling in her studies, Lillie also serves as a State Officer for HOSA—Future Health Professionals, representing Oklahoma students with poise and dedication.
Health Careers Instructor Falisha Bowers describes Lillie as “very punctual, kind to everyone she comes in contact with, and an excellent communicator.” She adds, “Lillie is always willing to volunteer, take initiative, and go above and beyond expectations. She brings a calm, professional presence to every setting.”
For Lillie, kindness is at the heart of her calling in healthcare.
“Kindness in healthcare means going beyond just treating symptoms,” she explained. “It’s about truly connecting with your patients—recognizing when someone is scared and making them feel understood. It’s turning a hospital room into a place where people feel cared for, not just processed. Kindness should be a guiding principle with every interaction because patients are people too.”
Lillie credits much of her success and growth to her instructors, Mrs. Bowers and Mrs. Swallow, whose mentorship has shaped her journey.
“They’ve been leaders, mentors, motivators, and unwavering supporters,” Lillie said. “They saw potential in me that I didn’t see in myself and helped me discover my true passion for healthcare—and for HOSA. They gave me more than an education; they gave me confidence, passion, and purpose.”
As a HOSA State Officer, Lillie knows what it takes to lead with integrity and heart.
“If you’re thinking about running for a leadership position, remember—it’s not about the title,” she shared. “A good leader believes in what they’re doing, connects with others, and works hard to make an impact. Leadership is about showing up, setting the example, and caring deeply about the people you serve.”
After graduation, Lillie plans to attend Oklahoma State University–Oklahoma City, where she will pursue a degree in Cardiovascular Sonography. Her long-term goal is to specialize in pediatric echocardiography and eventually serve as a traveling pediatric echo sonographer, allowing her to bring comfort and care to patients across the country.
With her compassion, determination, and leadership, Lillie Lewis embodies the very best of what it means to be part of High Plains Technology Center and HOSA—Future Health Professionals. Her journey reminds us that true success in healthcare starts with a heart for others.
