Practical Nursing

  1. Practice a variety of health care processes, techniques and procedures in a high tech simulated lab with direct application to the live clinical practice experience.

  2. Perform nursing procedures while utilizing principles of therapeutic communication, critical thinking, and nursing process to provide quality patient care in a variety of health care settings as a key member of the health care team.

  3. Complete a rigorous curriculum with relevant theory, lab skills and clinical instruction to prepare for a lifelong career or a stepping stone for articulation and further education.

The HPTC Practical Nursing program is approved by Oklahoma Board of Nursing and Oklahoma Department of Career & Technology Education. It is designed for adults who want a challenging career full of opportunities. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works under the supervision or direction of a registered nurse, licensed physician or dentist.

Clinical practice is correlated with classroom theory and skill practice. Clinical experience includes supervised practice, observation, and participation in various health care settings such as hospitals, nursing homes, home health, clinics, etc. Graduates acquire a wide range of skills that are easily transferred from one type of nursing to another. Some nursing programs in higher education offer direct articulation or advanced standing for the LPN to acquire an Associate Degree (ADN) or Bachelor of Science (BSN).

Graduates are eligible to apply to Oklahoma Board of Nursing to take the NCLEX-PN licensure examination. Applicants for Oklahoma licensure must meet all state and federal requirements to hold an Oklahoma license to practice nursing. In addition to completing a state-approved nursing education  program that meets educational requirements and successfully passing the licensure examination, requirements include submission of an application for licensure, a criminal history records search, and evidence of citizenship or qualified alien status.

Upon successful completion of the NCLEX-PN, graduates may work in many states. There are excellent opportunities for employment in hospitals, home health, long term care facilities and clinics. This program prepares for a lifelong career as an LPN or as a stepping stone for articulation and further education.
